Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Responsibility of debt in a marriage

A person's wife is being investigated for possible misdeeds by her former employer. If she is found guilty and is required to pay fines or restitution, what is the responsibility of the husband to pay these debts. They were just recently married, (a little over 1 year), and I do not believe he is aware his wife is being investigated.

Re: Responsibility of debt in a marriage

Unless you were a "co conspirator," or otherwise benefitted from your spouses' "misdeeds," then it's unlikely you will be held liable for repayment or compensation, due criminal or misdeamenor acts of another.

Good luck,
