Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Am I Responsible

Married 1-1/2 years. Wife's son by previous marriage ,(presently 17 and living with us) had medical bill incurred before marriage,(minor, $50). Birth father is responsible for all medical expenses, as spelled out in Texas divorce decree. Father never paid. Debt collector attempting collection from me. Several letters informing collector of my non-responsibility, (without naming birth father), have had no effect. Am I ultimately liable for the bill?? I have not adopted the son, he is still under his birth fathers' financial umbrella.

Re: Am I Responsible

You are not liable but your wife is. They may collect against her and then she has to go after father.

This transmissino is not legal advice or evidence of a client-attorney

relationship without a written document between the parties.nor is

this tranmission legal advice, it is merely a general knowlege

statement.
