Legal Question in Family Law in New York
''Rights to access of mail addressed to your Spouse''
I am married and have been for thirteen years. My husband has had our / his financial statements and mail sent to his office. Do I have the right to have access to all bills and mail addressed to him or his business? I know nothing of his income and our finances and account numbers.

You have access and rights to information, to any property, asset, personal or business financial document, record or account, held in your name, individually or jointly with your husband.
However, Absent a Divorce, Separation, or Support Complaint (child or spousal), your "rights" and "access" to property, assets, financial information or documents, held in or within, your husband's "individual" name, possession or control, are essentially, whatever HE may agree, your rights and access to be.
After or when, you file a Complaint for Divorce, Separation, or Support, you have the right to demand and your husband Must disclose and produce "his" personal and business financial information and documents, to you and the Court, (as you will too), for purposes of Court determination of your respective interests, shares and entitlement, to same.
Good luck,

This is a difficult situation. If you submit a joint tax return, then you have some rights. Otherwise, what is in his name is only accessible to you with his permission.
My father was also very 'close' and 'private' with his financial information. My mother felt infantized by this policy. My father had no secret accounts, no mistresses, no crazy or destructive stuff. he was just an idiot about money. He handled it badly, hated dealing with it, and was a real mess with his finances.
No crazy or destructive stuff, just a lot of personal issues that made it impossible to deal with money openly or constructively.
My mother handled the problem by going back to work (1971) and having her own accounts. He was very happy with this and so was she. it worked for them.
Every situation and marriage is different. It is also possible that his actions are not innocent. You knoiw what kind of man he is and can best judge whether his 'issues' are based on emotional issues or a bad heart.
