Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Rights to choose child's name

I'm in the process of establishing paternity via DNA testing. What rights do I have concerning the child's name if indeed I am the father? Will the law allow me to change the first or last name of the child?

Re: Rights to choose child's name

Probably not, absent consent of the mother, and possibly the child depending upon his or her age. There are a number of factors to consider including custody issues, the age and comprehension of the hostory and whether you will be an adoptive parent or not.

For a more complex analysis you will need to give me more information. . Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699
