Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Rights to furniture after terminating a domestic partnership

I recently ended a 7 1/2 year relationship with my domestic partner. We were living together however I wasn't on the lease. She's now locked me out of the apartment and has since filed termination of partnership papers. She's not allowing me to retrieve any furniture that we once agreed that would be divided amongst us in case of a separtation. My questions are, what steps must I take, do I need a lawyer, and what court should I go to? What type case is this?

Re: Rights to furniture after terminating a domestic partnership

I cannot accurately assess your case or even describe the action without seeing the papers and getting all of the other relevant details. However, unmarried partners have no shared financial interests except as they may have expressly agreed upon. So, your case may be controlled by general principles of contract and/or partnership law. I do suggest you consult an attorney as soon as possible.
