Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Scared of losing it all again

I have been living with a married man who is in the process of obtaining a divorce. He has the house in his name she has one in hers (he paid for it). I own the majority 95% of property in the house and have purchased major appliances and a riding lawn mower ..... Am I in a position to loose all my stuff in his divorce proceedings?

They both have a quit claim deed signed.

thanks for your help I'm scared I'm going to have to start with nothing again.

Re: Scared of losing it all again

You should feel nervous. You may very well find yourself in "the mix" between the two still married parties, notwithstanding the agreement the parties have.

Make sure you can prove your title and ownership of all of your property. You must be able to show source of funds for purchase, in addition to receipts, where and when purchased, etc., that is entirely separate from your housemate's purchase's, income, etc..

Hopefully, everything is settled and will not be a problem. But, you are correct to be prepared.

GOOD LUCK,
