I am seperating from my boyfriend of 13 years, and we have 2 children in common. We are going through a child-support battle because he makes roughly $50,000 a year, and has a lot of money in the bank because he comes from a wealthy family. He is currently only offering $250 a week for both children combined, and I am trying to not take it into court to avoid the headaches and hassles. I have full custody of both children. How much should he really be paying? Is it worth going to court over?

According to the child support guidelines set forth by NY State, he should be paying about $1041 per month total (or about $240 per week) based on his income. In order to get more than the prescribed amount, you'd have to convince the court that it would be in the best interests of the children for him to pay more. Without knowing more, it would be difficult to advise whether it is worth going to court over.
