Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Seperation?

My wife and I are in the process of seperating. We have 3 small children, and my wife has stayed home with them for the last 5 years while I worked. We have agreed to co-exist in the same house for the time being, but my wife firmly believes that she should not have to go back to work at all. She believes that I should keep supporting her fully. I am unable to afford a seperate residence at this time. I am wondering if I have any rights here. By law am I required to keep supporting her, or is there anything I can do so that she becomes responsible for the financial aspects we have, which include mortgage, possible day care, etc.

Well, you may be required to provide support for her and the children for at least a determined period. There are several factors that would go into making the determination of the amount and duration you would pay. One of the factors that the courts would consider is her age, health and employable skills.
