Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I was served divorce papers in Nov 2009. I am now going thorough the court proceedings representing myself. I now feel a need for a laywer but have no money. Can I take a loan against my 401k to retain one?

You should ask the court for permission to take the loan for the purposes of retaining an attorney. Do not attempt this with out the Court's permission. The standing orders from the Court state that you can not liquidate, or encumber any asset during the proceedings without the Court's permission.
