Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Served?

I was informed by someone that i might have a petition for Child support, so i called the court and was told that i did and it was adjorned becuse the papers were not served and the mail was returned, my question is if i was told on the phone is that the same as being served?

No. It is not the same way as being served. However, ultimately ducking service will not help you.
