Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Not showing for court proceeding
I was wondering if there was any benefit to not showing for a final court proceeding? My family found out that my sister-in-law didn't show for many court dates, and didn't show for the final time. She said that it was a benefit to not showing up. We don't get it! To make matters worse, she is living in NY, and he moved with the children to CA. The case is being settled in NY. She is a drug user, and hasn't shown much interest in her children by not going to see them when she was supposed to. Visits were paid for by her husband upfront. Her husband has taken most of her money away from her and her lawyers walked away from her case. We are tired of all of her stories. Can any one tell us what the law says about this? We don't want any more disappointment. We fear that we may never see her children again.
