My son wants to get married. In the event of a divorce, would the assets that he would be inheriting from his father and I, be in danger of being taken by his wife?

Inheritance and gifts are generally not marital property subject to equitable distribution. However, receipt of such assets may be used for claims of maintenance (alimony). Furthermore, increase of value of such gifts are subject to equitable distribution.
