Legal Question in Family Law in New York
My son-in-law is questioning the paternity of his son from his first marriage. If he does DNA testing and finds out he is not the father will he still need to pay child support or can he sign off his rights so the actual father can be responsible?

Depending on the Childs age he may still be responsible for paying support in a theory of estoppel, meaning he had held himself out to be the father sufficiently long and the court woukd refuse to now change this due to harm to the child...
