Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Spousal Financial Responsability / debt

I am remarried. My current husband is/has been unemployed for quite some time. He has no health insurance coverage. I am the primary moneymaker, have three children from previous marriage, and own my home. The mortgage and deed are in my name alone.

I am contmplating divorce unfortunatley, but am wondering in the meantime, if I am responsible at all for any debt/medical bills he may rack up while we are married. We have been married under 5 years, and he came into the marriage with no assets.

Thanks.

Re: Spousal Financial Responsability / debt

Yes; and his support, if he is in danger of becoming a public charge.

In addition, He May be eligible for equitable distribution of "your" property and assets that have appreciated during the marriage, (through his direct or indirect contributions to the marriage).

Good luck,
