If a house is in the husband's name, does the wife have claim to money derived from the sale of the house?

Yes. Pursuant to NY DRL 236B, the "term 'marital property' shall mean all property acquired by either or both spouses during the marriage and before the execution of a separation agreement or the commencement of a matrimonial action, regardless of the form in which title is held...."
