Legal Question in Family Law in New York
stopping child support
my child is 20 years. She has a great job, and is no longer in school. She just moved in with her mother. We have court a court appearnance on April 30th. Due to this last change of events will I be able to stop support even though she has been living on her own and quite capable of supporting herself?

You will need to bring a downward modification of child support. In fact you may be able to convince a judge that support should be reduced given the ability and increased income in the household.

Is she full-time? If she is independent, able to provide for herself then you should be able to claim that she is emancipated, despite the fact that she lives with her mother.
