i am going through a divorce and while we were married we consolidated student loans mine was worth 4100.00 and my wifes was worth 36,000. Is there any way that we can split this legally. The lending company is telling me that we can't, i have to stay tied to the loan. is this true?

Re: student loans

Yes, you will remain obligated to the lending company per YOUR agreement with them.

However, the court can offer you relief in allocating the debt between the two of you; and could require your wife to [re] pay you the difference.

GOOD LUCK,
