Legal Question in Family Law in New York

subpoena

Can a lawyer call you up and tell you to go to a person's house and pick up a subpoena? How must a subpoena be served in order for it to be legal?

Re: subpoena

The procedure suggested is perfectly legal.

The district attorney's office routinely serves

subpoenas by mail. The only drawback to such service

is that most court's will not jail an individual

for failing to appear if service has been by mail

This they will do only if the subpoena has been

personally handed to the individual

But they can and do still fine for failure to appear
