Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Surname change

I am divorced and am prepared to re-marry. My ex-wife refused to take back her maiden name. My new wife-to-be doesn't want to become the second ''Mrs. ___,'' so we have come up with an entirely different last name for me, which she will then take on when we marry. Would this be a good enough reason for a judge to grant a name change? Can I add the new name to the end of my current name without dropping my current last name all together?

Re: Surname change

You can change your name for almost any reason as long as it is not for fraud or to avoid creditors/judgments, etc. Yes you can add the name to your current name w/o dropping it.You need to petition the court for the change.
