Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Time line for a Standard Divorce
I filed a standard divorce in August 2004 with the help of ''We The People.'' The papers were review by the judge and denied once in Jan 2005, I believe the problem was that one document was not included, however, I'm not sure why the paper work was denied. ''We the People'' fixed the problem and they resubmitted the paper work again. It was reviewed by the judge a second time and denied again due to a problem with the form the company that served my husband filled out. ''We the People'' received the corrected paperwork from the servers and resubmitted the paperwork on Sept 19th 2005. This is a standard divorce, no complications. Is it typical for the paperwork to be denied? Is it typical for the case to sit in the courts for aproximatly 4 months before it is seen by the judge? How likely is it that the divorce will sit around for another 4 months and be denied again? Is there anyway I can push the case through? Anyone I can call? I tried two numbers to the NY Supreme Court and no one answered at either number.
Thank you for your help.

Unfortunatley, your experience is not unusual--the process is often lengthy. Needless to say, the errors did not help.

"We the people" is a legal service, they are not attorneys. As is often the case, you got what you paid for.
