Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Transfer of divorce documents from state of Washington to New York

My divorce was finalized in February of 2002 in the state of Washington. I have lived in New York since the summer of 2002. The judge who handled the divorce shared that I should refile in New York. How do I do that? I have three minor children and their father now resides in Tennessee. His salary and mine have changed. Also, he has never been consistent in when he sees the kids and I basically have no set schedule with him. Great for him, not so good for me. I would like to know how to go about filing in New York and in a cost efficient way. Thank you.

I think you may have misunderstood the Judge as there is no necesity to "refile" divorce docs in NY.

Perhaps he was referring to custody or visitation orders but no need to "re-file" those either unless there is a problem and/or you want to change them. Then you go to Fam court.
