Legal Question in Family Law in New York

no where to turn to..

i have a nineteen month old daughter. her father knew of her since i was 3 months pregnant and was not interested...he's come back now and is trying to establish paternity and i fear his next move...I don't think its in the best interest of a child to have a dad who comes in and out of her life yet the law says otherwise and thats why i am running out of places to turn to...its wrong that a father can choose when he wants to be a father but the mother is stuck with the task of raising a child...he's tried to take her out of my home in the past...i fear the worst of this situation...i need HELP!!!

The law follows the generally held belief that a child is better off with two parents.

Keep in mind that Courts are leery of custodial parents who place their needs above those of the child because of their poor relationship with the non-custodial parent.

If the father is a decent person, his presence in your daughter's life is likely to be considered by the Courts as being in the best interest of the child.
