Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Hi My Name is Uzma and Recently I got a divorced from my husband, actually this whole process was ben done in Lahore, Pakistan. I have two kids from this marriage and now My ex-husband is settled down in Pakistan. My question is how can I get child support from him and is my Divorce papers are valid here in Ny city because its been done in my country. My ex husband did'nt signed anything and he just left US and settled down in Pakistan. I just want to be sure that my papers going to be valid here in US.

A. Yes, as long as both parties agreed to the divorce (consent divorce) in Pakistan.
Q. how can I get child support from him.
A. It is very difficult if not impossible. You have two options. 1. You may seek child support from the courts in Pakistan. If the Court awards child support and you consent to the award, the order may be enforced in the United States. 2. You may seek child support in the US through the Family Court. However, Pakistan may or may not enforce the award depending on Pakistan law.
