Verbal Agreement: NYS

Hi,

My exboyfriend owens me about $7,000 from the tiem we were togehter. HE stopepd working and i was payig for all hsi expenses while he was building up a business. We had a verbal agreemetn of writting donw all the loans ona list. Now, he says he owes me nothing. I took him to Small Claims Court, but he says that a writting ontract is required. IS that true? Can i get my money back?

A verbal agreement, if it has all the parts of a contract is binding. However there is a saying that verbal contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. You will have to overcome any statute of fraud problems that may exsist and prove that the money you spent was a loan and not a gift. It will not be easy. Next time, get a written agreement and go see a lawyer before you give out your hard earned money.
