Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Visitation Modification

I have sole custody with the father having visitation rights. He has not exercised visitation in a year and was vastly sporadic before that seeing the child only 5 times total in 7 years. My child is begging me not to have to see him or his verbally abusive wife. He is not forcing visitaion at this point but I want to make sure that legally I remain in good standing should he attempt to push the issue. What, if anything, can I do to make sure my daughter isn't forced to go off with people who are basically strangers to her; that she fears will continue to mentally abuse her in their care?

Re: Visitation Modification

You may petition the Family Court to end the father's right of visitation. However, that may cause the father to enforce his right.
