Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Visitation

I am 15 years old (will be 16 in 6 weeks). I absolutely hate visitation with my father. He makes my life miserable. He is always yelling at me, and he has a bad temper; once he even threw a plate at me. He also blames me for things that are out of my control. He says bad things about my mom, and he gives me a hard time about everything I do from visiting friends to homework. He doesnt feed me either, and even if I go to get food myself, I find there is never enough food for a meal in the house. I spend my weekends at his house locked up like a prisoner because Im too scared of him. How old do I need to be before I can refuse visitation?

Re: Visitation

You can advise the court of your decision now.

Do you have a law guardian assigned to your case?

If you do, you should let the law guardian know that you are afraid of your father.
