Legal Question in Family Law in New York
my wife and i are divorcing
my wife is trying to use her divorce lawyer while the divoce is going on to close on my house as the closing lawyer. i have a small house and find this to be a bit unethical. i have told my lawyer about this and she has agreed. i feel two lawyers on this closing is nuts and a waste of money. is it ethical for a lawyer to try and do this. he stated to my lawyer that he is the closing lawyer and thats it. i called the realitor and she stated he sent out the papers to the buyer but i have the title and the deed and have not been asked for this info. i do know the lawyer would ask for this up front. i have asked my wife to get a neutral lawyer not involed to handle the closing .she has not responed to this and her lawyer called mine and stated to her he is the lawyer on this closing.can you give me your opinon and any help i would appreciate it thank you

Re: my wife and i are divorcing
If the house is jointly owned, you have a say in who will represent you. I suggest you either have both lawyers at the closing or hire a third. In any event, the proceeds should be place in escrow. Discuss your options with your lawyer.
