Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My wife has hired an attorney to draw up separation papers.

Am I required by New York state law to hire an attorney to

represent me in this matter? I realize I should have

someone look over the agreement but I can't afford to hire

an attorney. Is there an alternative?

You are not required to hire an attorney. However, not having an attorney advise you when your wife is represented is asking for trouble.

You should at minimum have an attorney review the proposed agreement with you - the cost of the consultation will be far less than the cost of making a mistake.

You are not required to retain an attorney.Your alternative is to get fleeced. Spend what is needed now or you'll regret it later.
