Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Hello there, I am writing from New York. I have an issue here that I would like to discuss and get a little heads up on what I should do. And then I will definitely look forward to retaining an attorney. I was served last week a family offense petition that i am summoned to appear in court next week. This summons was made from an ex-boyfriend who I have broken up with 3 mths ago. What happened was that we had an relationship of 5 years and I had caught him cheating on my last year september. Got a call from his current girlfriend who told me about their relationship of 6-7 mths. I truly felt betrayed and then, after confrontation, i started receving harassing calls from her and his side of the family. They are not praying for order of protection, summons and petition. My question is that I am summoned to appear in purpose :retuen of process, do i need to take an attorney with me or I should go in there my self and see what the judge has to say.

You should take counsel with you since you were served with a family offence petition.
You do not know what your ex-boyfriend may tell the court and you want to make sure that you are well prepared and protected.
