Legal Question in Medical Leave in New York

When can I apply for Maternity Leave. My colleagues have been laid off . I have not received any formal notification but I have been verbally told that they don't need me for longer period in this team but will try to position me somewhere in other group. . If I am pregnant,how can I make sure that I don't get laid off and definitely get new position.

When is the earliest I can apply for maternity leave under FMLA

With respect to what you can do to prevent a job loss through a reduction in force, there is no legal solution unless there is unlawful discrimination (e.g. race, gender, sex, age). FMLA leave is negotiated with your employer.
