Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Actionable Slander?

My neighbor has stated to numerous other neighbors (including children that our children play with) that my wife and I filed a report with animal control contending she was abusing her 2 dogs, we did not do any such thing. I believe this slander has damaged us in several ways. I have local political aspirations and this could prove to be an issue, further we now must live in a constant state of tension. I really dont want money, I really dont even want to go to court, I really just want her to shut-up. I have requested that she keep her opinions to herself, but she refuses.

Is this slander? We didnt do it and I am told as the process is anonymous she cannot prove we did. If I file in small claims, must she prove we did it, or must we prove we didnt? Thank You for any assistance !!!

If you really didn't do it, then you can sue for defamation and should win. If you did do it, then don't sue. Why don't you spin this issue?
