Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York
Asset Protection
consider the following senario, A neighbor is in conflict with my wife, has previously brought criminal harassment charges which was negociated to a restraing order which expired 6 months ago. my wife didnot harass this induvidual but under the advice of our attorny she accepted this in an effort to promote peace. Last week more serious charges were brought of criminial endangerment involving our car which is untrue. we reside in a small affluent inc. village with private and the induviduals seem to have an unethical relation with the police who either harass us or ignore us. during the court procedings our lawyer has stated he has never seen anthing like this. now with the new charges Our attorney has sumised is that what they are after is more likley our estate if they sue , if she is convicted, and is reffering us to another law firm with more expertise in these matters. How can I protect my assets.
Also , since these problems started 2 years ago my home has been broken into, my mail has been read , some of my personal information has been looked at yet no theft on any accounts. Intelectual information destined for the us patent office on my pc has been hacked and downloaded, luckily only a sudo draft, not the real thing.
