Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York
attempted burglary
Person I know entered her doorman building. Someone followed her into the building and rode up the elevator with her. When she got out he followed and tried to push door open. He ran away when she screamed. She contacted doorman who told her to calm down. She asked him to call police emergency 911 but he refused. The doorman called back and told her he escorted the person out of the building. Building is lax on screening individuals coming into the building and lets anyone in. She finally called the police 7 hours later. She is emotionally shaken up and is seeing a psychiatrist. What recourse does she have against the building management. She also wants to terminate her lease.

Re: attempted burglary
She is a crime victim and the building may owe her quite a sum if in fact they screwed up as it sounds like they did. The area of law is premises liability and I would love to speak to your friend about representing her. It could also be grounds for lease termination but we would need to see the lease to give her a better answer.
