awaiting a decision

I am awaiting a decision on a motion filed 7 months ago. No decision has been rendered as of this date. What recourse or options do I have? Are the courts required to render timely decisions. Nassau County New York

For some reason Nassau County has been very slow. I recently filed a motion which the Judge sat on. I sent a nice letter to the Judge (with a copy to my adversary) requesting that the Court renders a decision. The letter worked and I received a decision to my motion.
