Getting Back what's Mine

After a recent breakup, my ex will not let me get my TV back, which i paid for. if i can prove through a receipt that i paid for it, can i call the cops if needed?

The police will most likely not be helpful retrieving your property unless a court order accompanies them. Your best option is to discuss the matter with your ex and have her return it to you. Otherwise, you can sue in small claims court, good luck.

You may be able to prove that you paid for it but that does not establish who owns it. She may claim you gave it to her as a gift, or some other story. After all, it is in her possession, not yours.

Call your local precinct but not to report her. Ask if there is a neighborhood resolution center where you can start a file. The center will contact her for her version of the matter and, if you're not satisfied with the response thereafter, you can ask the center to schedule a resolution conference between the 3 of you. Any resolution made there not binding unless both of you sign it.

Otherwise, go to small claims court and take your best shot.
