Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

My boyfriend removed a boat from our property when he moved out, it is titled in both our names and registerd to me with him as co-owner the value is 14,000. He left for a few weeks vacation and I want to hire someone to retrieve it back in order to keep it in a safe place. I heard he is looking to sell the motors and parts as he is not able to get the title. Any help would be appreciated.

Hire lawyer real quick to file a writ of replevin. Legal fees will be around $3500 if you shop around. If you think he will move the boat somewhere where you won't find it then you will need an "ex parte order of seizure" and that costs bucks.

File a police report of the theft immediately.

Notify the insurance company of the theft.
