Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Dog Bite

My neighbor's dog jumped my fence and bit me. I have a 10 year old autistic son who is now afraid to go outside. What can I do leaglly to get her to raise her fence to keep my family safe? Get my medical bills covered for the dog bit and still maintain a civil neighborly relationship?

Re: Dog Bite

Concerning your relationship with your neighbor, I guess it would depend on the neighbor. If I had a dog that bit my neighbor, I would be very upset and do whatever possible to prevent a future attack.

In terms of the medical bills, first you should ask your neighbor, If that does not work, a lawyers letter. If that does not work (and depending on the cost of the medical bills), you may want to file a small claims action.

In terms of taking preventative measures, you should first ask your neighbor to raise the fence. If that does not work, a lawyers letter may be helpful. If that does not work, you may want to report the dog to the authorities.
