Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

expert witness

can an expert defendant, such as an engineer, be his own expert witness? does he need to call an expert to corroborate his opinion, or is his word taken for granted even though he is the defendant? Also, what laws would cover this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: expert witness

You can be your own expert, but I wouldn't recommend it. The jury will think that you couldn't find another engineer to support your position. The laws that cover experts... look at cplr 3101 and the frye case.
