Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York
I was on a flight from US to Canada a couple of years ago.
While entering the plane in US and arranging my piece of carry-on luggage slipped from the overhead compartment and struck a lady sitting below.
It wasn't my solely fault as many people tried to get some of limited available space.
Today I received a letter from a NY attorney representing the lady. They are suing the carrier (Air Canada) for the damage and asking me to provide the details.
The actual wording is "we have sued AC over this incident and I am in the process of obtaining a court order to ask you questions under oath about the details of this incident. This process is called deposition."
Then they ask me to contact their office to schedule a deposition on a voluntary basis.
I can help the lady to get the compensation, but obviously I don't won't to share any responsibility or to be sued later by AC.
What would be my best approach in this situation?

If your deposition is court ordered and you are within the jurisdiction of the court, you have no choice but to appear; you can be compensated for travel expenses and ancillary costs if employed.
