Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

i found out that over the last SEVERAL years, someone has been using my identity to open credit cards, bank accounts, loans, rent apartments, get access to my accounts, get access to my emails, take money from my bank accounts, open security accounts, get access to various internet accounts of mine, create email accounts, and so on in my name.. PLUS after changing all of my online information and starting fresh, it continued to happen.

one day i finally figured out who it was and that they actually posted a lot of my information online which includes... addresses, phone numbers, work history, and my social security number!

i am not sure if he was responsible for EVERYTHING which has happened in regards to my financial information BUT this is what i have so far.

i was able to get copies of the person's IP address and so on. it turns out to be someone i knew and had a bad relationship with. also he has made it VERY public in regards to the information he has and how he is using it.

he has made PUBLIC threats online to attack me, to kidnap my fiance, and has also sent me an email recently, trying to extort me for a large sum of money with a threat.

what can i do to prosecute him, what should i do to protect myself, what can i get back?? also should i contact the websites where he placed my personal information and have them delete it or should i keep it online as proof? i have already printed out copies of the websites.

You should contact the local authorities. The District Attorney's Office is the entity that prosecutes individuals for a crime.
