Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Liability from Wrestling injuries

My boyfriend is over 18 and is beginning to form his own wrestling shows. He doesn't have his promoter's license yet because he can't afford it, much less insurance. If one of the wrestlers at his shows gets injured, can he be held responsible? Also, is there any way for him to protect himself from being responsible other than pricey insurance(which he will get once he has enough money), such as contracts with the wrestlers? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Re: Liability from Wrestling injuries

Your boyfriend can, and most certainly will, be held responsible if someone is injured as a result of one of his wrestling shows. Aside from insurance, the best means of protecting himself would be to form a corporation, and to have the corporation conduct these shows. At this point he is taking a great risk. Should someone sue him as a result of an injury sustained during one of his shows, he can lose everything he owns.
