Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

I lived in NY at the time that I loaned a friend $15000. I have sent letters and emails requesting my money back but he keeps lying about. I have the proof is was done. I was able at the time that I lent the money to do so but since then I am having a hardship. I am unable to pay the fees needed to start a case and I am now a resident of Florida. What are my options?

Assuming that your friend lives in New York, you would have to commence an action in New York.

Since the amount owed is $15,000, you would be able to commence the action in District Court - if your friend lives in Nassau or Suffolk County, or Civil Court if your friend lives in the City of New York. By doing this, the initial fee would be reduced.
