Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Moving expense

6 months after a move, the moving company wants an additional $750.00 for additional services performed. At the time of the move they claimed not to have the proper boxes, so they would use other boxes instead and verbally said ''no additional charge''.Now their tune has changed. What type of lawyer do I need? Thanks for your help in this matter-

Re: Moving expense

If it goes to court it may end up costing you more in legal fees then you would pay. See if you can reach a compromise. If you'd like my assistance you can call.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.

Re: Moving expense

This is a litigation matter and a 'ltigator' is needed. The subject matter is 'commercial contract'.

The best way to handle this matter is to write a letter to the moving company indicating (i) you did not authorize any of these 'additional expenses' and do not know what they are (could the expenses be for something other than the boxes). (ii) Reject the claim for additional money on the basis that you paid in full and send a xerox copy of your check or other proof of payment.

Do not report anything to any NY City of State Consumer Protection Board; yet. Wait until they have a lawyer working on the case.

You don't need a lawyer until they file a lawsuit with a court. Although a letter denying any money owed on a lawyers letterhead can be very persuasive.

Good luck.
