Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Normal life?

How long, before I can resume these activites? I was convicted of [Scheming to Defraud(3rd)] for bouncing checks. As part of my conviction I am unable to do things I once took for granted. One such right that I lost was the ability to vote. Surprisinglly, I miss that one greatly. The one I miss the most is the ability hunt with a firearm. It happened 5 years ago and I've been told that after 7 years that conviction will drop off my record. My question is this: After waiting 7 years will I automatically be able to vote and hunt with a firearm.

Re: Normal life?

Whoever told you that the conviction would drop off your record gave you wrong information. A criminal conviction never drops off your record. However, you can apply to the court for a Certificate of Relief From Civil Disabilities. If you get this, it will restore certain rights. I think it restores your right to vote (although I cannot remember for sure) but I'm not sure about getting a gun license.
