Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Can I press charges

If i am driving down a side street and the limit is 20 and i am going 30 do the residents of the block have any right to start getting close to the vehicle and throw shoes at me while i am driving. If it helps there were also many witnesses and some of them were children that is why they were throwing stuff at me. I feel they have the right to be angry at speeding when there are children in the area, but i do not feel it was right for them to throw things at my car because they could have caused a more serious situation in which my car could have swurved and hit other cars and possibly other pedestrians. can you help me out?

Re: Can I press charges

No. You cannot throw shoes at a car, even if the car is speeding. I believe that action would constitute disorderly conduct, a violation subject to a fine.

My advice is 1. Don't speed. 2. Drive with an individual with a camera. 3. Have the individual take pictures of the people throwing shoes at your car. 4. File a complaint with the police.

No they can not throw things at you, but you should slow down in a residential area.
