Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York
Problem with auto racing sanctioning body
This winter I purchased a car that was legal according to DIRT Motorsports rules last year. Over the winter I freshened up the car, spent alot of money updating it and getting it race ready. A week before the season began they changed the rules. Now we have to change our cars to be able to compete simply because the head tech inspector has issues with this type of chassis. There was no notice of this change until the week before opening day. Now may car is considered illegal unless I make extensive modifications. Is there a possible lawsuit here?

Only if the organization failed to follow their own procedures for changing the rules, if you want to participate in an organization this is the risk you take. While you may be able to bring a lawsuit, I don't beleive your chances of success rate very high.

I really think not. Licensing bodies generally have the power to make safety decisions and, unless they are totally arbitrary and capricious, you have to abide with the rules.
