If an engagment is ended ,should the ring be returned ? Thank- You

Believe it or not, NY has a law which provides that a person who gives a gift "in contemplation of marriage," can recover that gift -- usually an engagement ring.

An engagement ring is a gift in made in contemplation of marriage. If there is no marriage, the condition for the gift fails and the ring should be returned.
