Without more information concerning the type of civil lawsuit it is impossible to answer. Please provide information concerning the type of action i.e. negligence, contract, malpractice .....

Also, you must provide information on the defendant. For instance if the defendant is an agency or branch of Governement like the Housing Authority, City of New York , or State of New York, there are additional time limitations that must be met.
