Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Summons, debt, bankruptcy

just receive a summons today for one of my credit cards. I am not currently working. I start job training on august 14 and will not be able to work from september after i finish. My last job was from november 2007-end of Feburary 2008. I also have other credit card debt which is unsecured. Is bankruptcy the best thing for me right now and will affect me in the future for jobs? If i do not file for bankruptcy what will happen if i go to court for the summons i was issue today and how does it work with unsecured debt? I am not married and I am still living with my family. I do not have no children. I recently finish college and I do not own a car or a house.

Also I wanted to know, for my summons i just receive today. For the creditor I owe 1,276.62. If i call and talk to them to see if I can pay $300 by the end of this month and make a payment plan with them from september when I start working, would that help me avoid going through the court process and lawyer fees?

Also it says i have 21 day within receiving summons to appear and answer back. How should i go about dealing with this? This is my first time with everything

You need to answer the summons. You should try to negotiate the debt after answering the summons. You can contact me if you need legal representation.
