Tape recording conversations?

Can I use a hidden tape recorder to garner evidence re: the denial of promised Job Benefits. Recordings would be of person to person conversations, not phone conversations. I would be the plaintiff. Location is New York City, NY.

You may always record your own conversations, and you don't need to tell the other person you're recording. You may not eavesdrop on others' conversations using electronic equipment.
